Is undoubtedly brilliant, intense and darker.

Sargeist hailing from Finland finally has returned after four years of absence, their newest album entitled "Unbound" delivers a production to clean but threatening allowing the sound to be more inflictive giving us peace of mind, because honestly after the release of their previous work back in 2014 "Feeding the Crawling Shadows" which didn't met the level achieved at "Let the Devil In" in 2010 in my opinion the best you can listen from this band so far or at least that was my opinion before to listen their newest production.

So let's take a closer look, First impression always count and "Psychosis Incarnate" gets you in such atmospheric maze and gloomy melodies the folky passage gives an incredible dimension, frantic drums and the low guttural growls make this track a must have in your playlist, "The Bosom of Wisdom and Madness" ravaging without mercy, intense guitar riff, the drumming brings a relentless blast beat and everything here sounds perfect, "Deaths Empath" starts with a more melodic groove style, quickly evolves into a more darker sound more according to its nature, while "Hunting Eyes" shift the pace to a slower track approaching more to the depressive style with sick melodies, "Her Mouth Is an Open Grave" rapidly digs into the earlier Sargeist style raw and morbid alike to the Old School Black metal, "Unbound" will caught you off place with such joyful folkish passages, occasionally builds intensity with those fast pace injections, "Wake of the Compassionate" it unleash a hellish blast beat alongside the punishing guitar riff while the growling vocals match perfectly, the last track is "Grail of the Pilgrim" it is disturbingly exciting in the classic style of Sargeist, somber and unapologetic.

"Unbound" is undoubtedly brilliant, intense and darker, the album captures the most extreme and dense creativity and reaffirm Sargeist as one of the most outstanding acts within the Black metal scene, this album you must have it, no excuses allowed!

The Finnish band Wolfheart has returned with their newest album entitled "Constellation of the Black Light," and mastermind Tuomas Saukkonen is behind this impressive album, just five years ago the idea was conceived and now Wolfheart with four albums under his belt, this band have been consolidated within the melodic death metal scene and nowadays there are not many places where they reserve the right to comment on this band, this is not the work of causation, rather it is because persistence and consistency, the key that has opened doors to this formidable band.

The band is complemented by drummer Joonas Kauppinen, bassist Lauri Silvonen and guitarist Mika Lammassaari, this line-up has remained stable since 2014 when Tuomas Saukkonen ceased his activities in all his bands and previous projects (Before the Dawn, Black Sun Aeon and Dawn of Solace) to focus and develop the Wolfheart project as a full-time band.

"Constellation of the Black Light" brings together the classic sound of Wolfheart, the fine atmospheric passages able to transmit the coldest emotions, the down tuned guitar emanating a melancholic riff that drives you through your deepest and twisted feelings. Adding some truthful and intense death metal hooks, that’s enough to retain your attention for the next forty two minutes, the first piece "Everlasting Fall" has a grim acoustic guitar tone that are just the prelude before to kneel down to the immensity and magnitude delivered between an ambitious and entangling track, "Breakwater" comes with a fast melodic tremolo guitar and blasting drums while the growl and raspy vocals remain the same as previous recordings, but more reliable at interpretation, "The Saw" built in a folkish vibe full of melodies shifting pace and intensity majestically which make me feel more earth attached, "Forge with Fire" and "Defender" is truly a punch for its explosiveness both packed with extensive melodies, "Warfare" kicks off with an energetic drumming paired with overwhelming guitars and the last track is "Valkyrie" infused with an epic melancholic feeling carrying a beautiful aggression and unforgettable blasting.

The uniqueness of Wolfheart at songwriting goes beyond your expectations, the production is great, clear and tight, once again the band have proven their quality and endless inspiration, renewing effortlessly their legacy, if you are not familiar with Wolfheart well, this is a good point to start in a retrospective way.

Full of dark rites and devilish conjures.

Regardless that Archgoat emerged since 1989 it's very clear that they doesn't belong to the now known Second Wave of Black Metal lead by the Norwegian and Swedish Black metal scene, rather they remained true, to their sound is very influenced by the Brazilians Sarcofago and its raw black metal and the Canadian band Blasphemy and its infernal black metal, Archgoat adhered to it with a darker ambience and deeper tone, from a raging slow riff up to reach an explosive and chaotic riff, always with their transgressive and extreme lyrics.

"The Luciferian Crown" represents Archgoat’s fourth full length effort until today's date, this is due to the fact that they got split in 1993, just before the release of what would supposed to be their album debut entitled, "Angelslaying Black Fucking Metal" which didn't saw the street light at that time, it would be up to 2005 when was released as an EP format for the Finnish, Hammer of Hate Records a year after Archgoat got together again.

“The Luciferian Crown" is full of dark rites and devilish conjures, inspired by the hellish forces, the first track a twenty second intro and its tenebrous growls in the background bell chimes is enough warning to tell you where are you going to enter, right away comes "Jesus Christ Father of Lies" which sounds raw and brutal due to the fast pace they forged in hell, "Messiah of Pigs" with a horrific pigs squealing intro the track kicks off a hammered riff and blasting drums everything is set for those unsettling growls, another outstanding track is "Star of Darkness and Abyss" it sounds malevolent and aggressive the drum work is relentless with a bloody fast pace assault by merciless guitar riff, all this embraced by a bright and ominous keyboard, "The Obsidian Flame (From my Depths)" goes more slower and catchy, "The Luciferian Crown (Venom of God)" tears down everything around, its sound has an approach to what some call war metal, "I am Lucifer's Temple" powerful doom vibe very well structured track with a murky feeling, which appeals to the darker feelings.

Archgoat’s new album doesn't refrain the blasphemies at all, as a storm they come to destroy and leave nothing behind, many will call it Infernal black metal, others War black metal and few one’s Bestial black metal. You can call it whatever you want, but at least you must have to experience this band once in your life.

Certainly, one of the best folk metal albums of the year.

I know! Sometimes I tend to post a lot of Death metal and Black metal reviews, more than any other genre, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate other bands out of my favorites genres, such as Korpiklaani and their contagious Folk metal full of melodies. I can't imagine a single one of those big Summer festivals without any folk metal band added to their billboard.

Well, I know lots of us we don't speak Finnish at all, however that inconvenience doesn't prevent us to enjoy and understand the music language, Korpiklaani are really good at that and they exploit it perfectly. Their abilities at songwriting transmits the right feelings, so let's crack the ice and get ready for what's coming up.

Korpiklaani brings us this time "Kulkija" which could be interpreted as (“Wayfarer”), it’s their most complete and longest work they had ever put out together, it contains fourteen ambitious tracks with their purest folk style that they only could create. The Finnish band seems venturous with their seventy-one minutes of production, but believe me, at the end it’s worth every single minute. The opener track "Neito” (Maiden) is a wonderful folkish piece that connects your mind right away with Fintroll and undoubtedly you know what soil you are stepping on. In "Harmaja," its songwriting brings up a somber feeling putting aside the metal aspects to create a sorrowful ambience, another track to highlight is "Sillanrakentaja" (The Bridge Builder) which is play in a semi-slow pace with a darker and memorable riff that keeps you engaged to deliver you a stunning end, exceptionally adding a darker layer with those eerie children's voices. "Henkselipoika" (Suspender Boy) takes you back into the usual Korpiklaani sound, a very well balanced track between Folk and Metal elements, followed by the instrumental "Pellervoinen" that works as an interlude, "Kuin korpi nukkuva" (As the Wilderness Sleep) is powered by some groovy riffs while the violin and accordion intertwine and the unexpected Tango style that ends this track is unique, "Juomamaa" is very versatile with punching riffs that are very joyful due to the fast pace and complex musical arrangement. The closing track is "Tuttu on tie" (The Road is Familiar) which reflects a gloomy vibe that’s heartbreaking, the vocals carry with them a deep feeling of regret and perpetual pain.

I could keep talking about this album for a while, and most likely I wouldn't run out of adjectives to qualify this epic production; but I'm sure I will conclude with the same opinion, this is a great album, despite my personal likes and being objective, "Kulkija" easily has taken a spot to contend as one of the best Folk metal albums of the year.

Remorseless and aggressive grindcore

After twenty-three years in the scene Rotten Sound doesn't show any sign of weakness, not even because they always has been playing one of the most confined and limited genres in the underground scene, the grindcore for some, is an endless chaotic mass of riffs, murky bass tunes and battering drums and you know what? Unequivocally, I think that is the best definitions everybody can conclude, every twist and tweaks depend on each band's approach to keep fresh, corrosive and true to its roots.

These Finnish have returned after five years and brings under their arm the seventh album in their career, which they have entitled "Abuse to Suffer" which is slightly over thirty-two minutes of their remorseless and aggressive grindcore as only they know how to do, incredible production, abrupt and heavy riffs, intense blast beats, abrasive bass and guttural vocals are few of the attributes I can attach to this grindcore devotees.

Rotten Sound unfolds their wrath from the beginning with the first theme "Lazy Asses" a blend of cathartic and disharmonic riffs, "Fear of Shadows" throws some groovy riffs at mid pace, while "Time for the Fix" with its infectious riff extends the groovy feeling to create a complex, yet chaotic counterbalance after half way to the end, "Brainwashed" with its distorted hardcore-punk influenced, knock down any conventional structure implied, "Yellow Pain" brings a nauseating sludge pace with under tune riffing, "The Clerk" it's a straight assault that refuses to veer from their hardened formula, "Retaliation" it's a fast and furious onslaught with buzzing guitars and brutal drum pattern, "Extortion and Blackmail" rapidly engage the listener with unmatched violence, but suddenly turns into a massive groove that thrives into a noisy scheme, followed by "Equal Rights" It has a very consistent rhythm section alike the Scandinavian death metal bands, crushing blast beats and shattering vocals, leads to the last track "Someone Weak" sonically slows down with heavier guitar riffs, bone crushing drums and powerful growl vocals.

 "Abuse To Suffer" it’s a clear statement of what grindcore is about, many of their hard die fans will agree with me, despite the lack of innovation Rotten Sound offers a solid album, varied in content and able to break necks; Do not hesitate if you like bands like Nasum, Napalm Death or Gadget then do not waste your time.
